The Role
I enjoyed my internship at Global Data. All interns were placed in different teams and were working on their projects. If you wanted to get involved in any other project you could do so. Moreover, in the beginning all of us had a lot of training and during the time of internship, we were allowed to shadow different teams/departments. It gives you a unique opportunity to figure out which team is the best for you. Besides work, Bloomberg organized a lot of events and activities for interns.
It depends. You do receive a feedback at the end of your time here and you have a regular catch-ups with your mentor. I also scheduled catch-ups with my manager to make sure he knows about my work progress. I did feel valued, however, due to the scope of my projects, I do not feel that I was able to show all my skills and knowledge.
At Bloomberg you are not alone. You are given a ot of support and guidance, not only by your mentor and manager. You can always ask for help and guidance as everybody knows that you are learning. Moreover, if you want to get involved in other project, your mentor will help you and advise you who to contact.
I was really busy but was able to handle that. Nevertheless, I really rarely stayed extra hour. As intern, you have a lot of extra activities during your work day, so you need to be able to juggle with everything.
A lot of. Since the second week I was updating data points on the Terminal, so you are indeed given a true responsibility.
The training is rather basic, but skills you develop here are really important (attention to details, accuracy, learning from mistakes, collaboration, teamworking, taking initiative, etc). If you know more than one lanugage, you will definitely have a chance to use it in practice.
The Company
The atmosphere is amazing. You can really feel like at home, people are open and you can talk with everybody - the company structure is indeed flat. Moreover, you can meet people from all over the world here, so you can really be yourself here.
It was really well-organized. In the first three weeks we had trainings, but later on we had events for interns, where we could listen to more experienced colleagues. We took part in volunteering event and in amazing summer party.
I think that they did invest a lot, not only from the trainings perspective. Every intern had weekly catch-ups with their mentor and twice we had meeting with our coordinator. These meetings were really helpful for me as more experienced colleagues could have given me their feedback about me and what team/career opportunities are suitable for me.
Company Parties/Events
In the last week of your internship you have an interview for Global Data Training Programme, but your whole internship is like an interview, so you need to make sure that you do your best. What is really amazing is that you can choose where you want to start as a full-time employee (they can wait for you if you are good). I got the job, however, not everybody was successful.
The Culture
It was really good. Interns got up well with each other, not only fellow interns. Every single weekend was organized and literally everybody could have joined us. For me, it couldn't have been better.
My intership took place in London, so living/socialising were pretty costly.
Really good.
Literally endless opportunities. Bloomberg organized a lot of activities, such as volunteering event, interns parties or summer picnic. Besides, every single week interns were going out together.
