About You
I had a thoroughly enjoyable summer vacation scheme. The teams I was placed within were open and friendly and provided me with a high level of work. The other schemers were sociable and I enjoyed the numerous social events that the firm offered, as well as the nights out with the schemers.
The extent as a schemer you are utilised depends largely upon the supervisor you are assigned and the amount of work the department has currently. During my time, although there were a few quiet days, generally I was kept very busy, but not excessively so.
My supervisors and the departments I was placed in were incredibly supportive and were keen to answer any questions I had on my future career (irrespective of whether it was with Simmons or not). Indeed, I was taken out by three partners for informal 'get-to-know-you' chats.
It certainly placed the theoretical application of law during my LLB into practical perspective. Turns out all those cases you learn for undergraduate are simply replaced by PLC. That aside, we developed negotiation, research and presentation skills, which are useful as I undertake my LLM.
The Company
The insight was very well structured - the graduate recruitment skills sessions were generally organised so as to ensure we were given ample time to work in each of the departments, without overly disrupting our work days.
The working and social environment was friendly, open and sociable.
There were numerous talks and graduate recruitment training sessions organised, culminating in a group presentation.
Effectively we were treated as trainees - it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
I have experienced a few firms who emphasise how unique their firm culture is, but the emphasis placed on it by Simmons was far greater than any before.
The work we did was enjoyable, but the most valuable information I received came from the numerous informal conversations with the partners at the firm, who were keen to share their own personal experiences and discuss my career plan.

I was paid
Everyone was approachable and graduate recruitment were also keen to put you in touch with any department you were keen to meet.
Excellent - power boating and a champagne reception on the London Eye...
I played for the Simmons football and softball team during my three weeks, and was scheduled to play for the cricket team. There are more teams and societies and they are very well attended.
