The Role
I was so lucky to have such a social group of other students on placement. We all became such good friends and really tried to make the most out of living in Hoddesdon!
You really are needed in your department. The work does vary from high value work to sort of manual and boring tasks, but it has to be done by someone after all.
Plenty of support from my supervisor, but enough breathing room to find my own feet.
More often than not I had a lot of spare time and would ask for work, which sometimes had to sort of be magicked out of thin air. But other times are busy so it varies.
Plenty! Being responsible for lots of important reports was quite scary but you get used to it.
It's really helped me improve using Excel.
The Company
Most people 'live for the weekend', so everyone perks up as it gets nearer to Friday.
Extremely well organised, our questions were always answered quickly and information always available.
We had some internal training sessions, and the opportunity to go into London a fair bit (not quite enough though!) which was good fun and interesting.

Working from home
Not appealing. The location of MSD is not ideal for a young person, but I can imagine the Marketing department being fun to work in.
The Culture
Absolutely! We celebrated everyone's birthdays within an inch of their lives, going out for dinner and drinks most weeks, going into London at weekends for nights out and shopping trips to Westfield shopping centre (30 mins to Stratford), loads of nights out in nearby towns like Hatfield and Hertford, loads of bowling and cinema trips! But you need to just organise it yourself and everyone will flock. We made the most of it!
Rent is EXTORTIONATE but fortunately living costs are fairly cheap, if you stay away from London that is, which wouldn't be much fun.
Awful! But you're near Hertford which is great for after works drinks, and London is only 30 mins on the train and last one back is at 11.30pm, so we would go straight after work and back in time for the last train.
Quite a lot, we all went to the gym a lot after work together, then organised our own things like pub quizzes, cinema, drinks etc. It's what you make it really.
