Assurance Summer Internship Review

Overall, I had a great time throughout the internship. PwC did a great job at organising the induction events and the variety of work I got to experience was simply phenomenal.

From day one, I felt that I was part of the team and that I was actually contributing to the audit engagements.

There is a great variety of support available out there when you start your internship. You are assigned a buddy and a people manager at the start of the internship, who are your main points of contact. Also, you can always address your queries to any of the members of the engagement team or if you are working in the office, you can simply walk up to someone and ask them the question, people will be more than happy to help you out

It widely depends on what clients are you working on and your workload. Sometimes, I would finish all the work by 3pm, and then do some e-learns afterwards; but then there were times when I would leave the office at 6.30pm.

The complexity of the work I was given increased gradually throughout the internship, from doing bits and pieces (e.g. cash recs), to auditing an entity from scratch. My main advice here would be to always ask for more responsibility from your in charges and spend some extra time at the office every day just to show your commitment to the job.

I learned a lot within the 6 weeks that I spent at PwC and I feel that this experience will give me a great advantage over my peers in that I feel I have a better understanding of how accounting works in practice.

Everyone I met was very friendly and welcoming.

All in all, the internship was organised very well. The induction events were amazing, the office training well structured and the variety of work ample.

PwC invests a lot of money in the internship programme as they are trying to give every intern the best possible experience.

I got a graduate offer.

I got along very well with the interns and the other people I worked with over the internship. Given the nature of the job, you get to spend quite a lot of time with your team members, which allows you to get to know the people you are working with better and develop long lasting relationships with them.

Edinburgh is quite expensive over the summer, especially in terms of accommodation costs (mainly due to the Fringe).

Edinburgh is a great place to live in during the summer, mainly because of the fringe festival. Other than that, pubs and restaurants are just a walking distance away from the office.

There were quite a few office outings as well as drinks at the end of the month.
