The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my Investment Banking internship with J.P. Morgan. I did not have much prior work experience or knowledge of the banking industry before, but the the internship gave me a valuable insight into the industry and has honed some important skills.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and other co-workers. Everyone was extremely helpful and always available for a quick chat to discuss any issues I was having. My inputs were encouraged and my seniors encouraged me to put forward my view.
I was given some really good support and advice by my staffer, mentors as well as other bankers I met in networking events. Everyone encouraged me to ask as many questions I had, however silly they may sound.
I was extremely busy on a daily basis. I was given a wide variety of work to undertake during the internship and felt lucky to have had such a good insight into Investment Banking. Even though I expected a summer lull, there was plenty of work for me as many of my colleagues were on holiday.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I expected and my colleagues trusted me by often giving me important client-critical work to undertake. A lot of the work I performed was under tight time-pressure situations which I believe gave me a good understanding of how the job on a daily basis was.
I believe that this internship has helped me to develop and hone some important skills and given me some skills for life. These sills include time management, working under tight time-pressure situations, communication skills, computer (excel and PowerPoint skills), teamwork and leadership skills etc.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was extremely positive, even in the most stressful situations. The environment on the floor was extremely welcoming, and everyone went out of their way to introduce themselves and make sure we felt part of the team.
The internship was extremely well set-up with a number of events organised by HR to make sure we meet interns from different divisions. There were never any organisational/logistic problems I experienced and things went smoothly as per plan.
I think the firm definitely invested a lot in me in terms of personal training an development. Except for formal training sessions, I learnt a lot personally and professionally from my team members who were always patient and extremely willing to teach.

I think future employment prospects are extremely appealing as a graduate. I believe the internship has given me a very good insight into the banking world, and I would definitely take the opportunity of a full-time position.
The Culture
All the other interns were extremely friendly and helpful, forming a support system. There were many social events organised by HR throughout the internship so that interns could get to know each other better as well as meet interns from other divisions
I worked in Canary Wharf which was not cheap compared to other areas of England. But, the firm did give us a relocation grant to help us in the costs of moving and settling into London.
The nightlife in London was extremely good and fellow interns would often go out together over the weekend. Although we never went out in Canary Wharf, it is quite close to some of the best bars and clubs in London.
The internship is quite intense and there aren't that many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. However, there were a number of support groups within the firm that held regular events and promoted diversity and individual hobbies.
