The Role
Absolutely loved every second of it. Manager instantly asked what I wanted to do and looked for opportunities that I could add real values to the company.
Massively valued, all my colleagues were bonbarded with silly questions by me and always answered then with a smile. All really lovely people too!
A good mix. Had a few big meeting where we discussed what I could get involved with but then I was allowed to get on with it. Also wasnt spoonfed, they gave me a task and I could do it in which ever way I thought was best. Whenever I got lost (which did happen from time to time) I just needed to drop my manager an email and he would setup a meeting.
Towards the start I was completely lost and adjusting to work life, so not that busy. But as I understood more and picked up more responsibility and asked for more work, it got more and more intense. Towards the end it became a rush to get everything done, but I was never bored, I enjoyed doing the work!
A high level, I asked to get involved in some very large tasks that may impact the company in the future and was allowed to work with the team where my input was really valued. I also worked as a interface with a university for a reaserch project which has gone much further. So a really large level to be honest.
Self working and the adjusting to work life from uni life is an obvious skill I picked up relatively quickly. I also worked with teams to organise a conference for other interns and gained alot of team working but more crucially influencing skills that should help me in the future as well as countless others, I really gained alot from this internship
The Company
I worked in a slightly quieter office to the other interns. Which was good and bad. I didnt get to meet and network with others like I may have otherwise but I absolutely loved the people I was with and made really strong friendships with them, so it was totally worth it. Only when people left for holidays did it get abit dull but otherwise (90% of the time) was hugely fun.
There was a system and was organised but there were never any constraints set on it. I was lucky enough to get an amazing manager who asked me what I wanted to get involved with and thats something I feel really quite privilaged to have.
I dont think you can "invest" in training and development. I think you must give the person the opportunities to develop themselves and I was absolutely given that.

National Travel
Very, but more for the people I got to work with then the company itself. If I was to join the grad scheme I would want to come back to this site.
The Culture
Not amazing, had two other absolutely awesome iterns with me and we bonded really well, I also bonded with my colleagues. Had occasional nights out but nothing regular and the place where I was situated was a little boring.
Cost of living low, but as everything is so far away from everything else. Getting to a night out and back would be a pain and usually costly.
Meh nowhere close by. Needed to get on the train to go anywhere.
Not really. Quite a boring place to be honest.
