The Role
I enjoyed learning about BAE systems and getting a broad overview on the project that I was working on. However the day to day work was extremely repetitive and dull; I very rarely had to use my brain!
A few of my colleagues really engaged with me and valued my opinion. Even so most, if not all of the work that I was set was given to me on the basis of "If you don't have anything better to do you could..." which meant that I ended up doing the tasks that nobody else wanted to do.
Unfortunately the business area that I joined was very busy so my line manager didn't have very much time to give me support. But I didn't feel as though I needed much support so didn't go and ask for much.
I was continually asking around my team for odd bits of work since I didn't have one big piece of work to keep me occupied.
Because of the nature of the work that I was doing I didn't have much responsibility. I mainly editied a bit of a spreadsheet and sent it back to a colleague.
It was good experience working in a large organisation and some of the soft skills that I have developed will be useful in my future career.
The Company
Nobody in my office seemed to enjoy their job and there were no particularly ambitious people. Everybody couldn't wait to leave at the end of the day!
The overall internship was set up quite well however nobody had a firm project in mind for me to do during my 12 weeks. This meant that I had to continually ask my colleagues for work and as such only got little bits and pieces of work to do which really affected my overall opinion of the internship. Also my line manager really didn't have a clue what his responsibilities with regards to the internship were.
There was very little personal training or development.

Since I haven't enjoyed my placement I wont apply to the same business area. Even if you work hard and impress your line manager sufficiently there is no way to fast-track the application for the graduate scheme which makes you feel pretty undervalued by the business.
The Culture
The other interns and I went out a few times.
Not too bad.
Good!!
None at all!
