The Role
I enjoyed the year thoroughly, the team was very welcoming and I was able to get involved with various lines of business giving me a broader experience.
The Franchise team is very welcoming and all work and communicate together. I was given various tasks to do, showing that I was a valued member of the team. I also worked across the business where everyone was professional and polite. Additionally I met various interns from other departments which were a pleasure to work with.
I have a few managers whilst at Disney, my line manager was very supportive and helped me develop my skills across the process. Additionally I worked closely with others colleagues within management and gained advice and support once again.
I had a steady work load throughout the year, but each week differed from the next. For example when a big event was coming up I would have a lot of work, but it wasn't always like this. I was often given multiple tasks to complete, but after a while I was able to learn the art of effective time management.
I would have perhaps liked to have been given more responsibility on my placement year, however the team was very open to helping you develop your skills so this may have been my mistake of not asking for more. However I got involved with some really interesting projects across the year.
I think doing a placement year is the best thing any University student can do, as it puts you ahead of those students that have not completed a placement year. I have learned invaluable transferable skills that I will take back to my final year of University. For example my confidence has grown a lot through building relationships across the company. Additionally I have had an insight into an aspect of marketing in a work environment.
The Company
Working at Disney, you can imagine was very fun! Desks were full of Disney merchandise and it was a great place to work. It did not feel like an ordinary office setting.
When starting my placement I had the current intern trained me for 2 weeks, so I felt I had an effective hand over. There were certain tasks that my managers wanted me to do throughout the placement which was discussed right from the start. In terms of projects this was more disjointed as we cannot account for what work may come up. Overall great organisation.
I had regular meetings with my managers to review my progress, they were able to offer me support and advice to improve which I took on board. My manager always asked if there were any tasks I wanted to get involved with to help in my process. There were also workshops across the year which I could sign up to.

Disney does not actually offer a graduate scheme, however saying this they often take back old interns as I witnessed whilst at the company. If you leave a lasting impression on your management team there are definitely good prospects for you.
The Culture
The social life was amazing, there were various intern outings and events. Due to the large amount of interns at Disney there was a great opportunity to meet lots of people. Additionally there were many team outings with my colleagues, for example going to Premiers.
Cost of living in London is understandably quite high, but it was completely worth it. With the wage I got I was able to live comfortably but also have a great social life.
London is an exciting city, with various options for nightlife.
Yes there were countless activities outside of work to get involved with, from sports to volunteering opportunities. I got involved with the Kick Boxing club, which I loved and I met some lovely people and got a great workout.
