    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed learning about EY and the Tax Service line. I learned a great amount about the various tax services that EY offer their clients and also about the recent developments in tax. I did have a little too much downtime during the internship, but this was due to colleagues going on their annual leave.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues at EY were very friendly and are always willing to answer your questions. Most are approachable, including partners. They appreciate the hard work that you put in during the internship.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Supervisors are very keen for you to learn about tax and thus are very helpful in explaining the work that I had to do. They understand that you are an intern and therefore do not have technical tax training, and thus would assign appropriate tasks for you to do. My supervisor also checked if I had capacity to undertake tasks before assigning them to me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was rarely busy during the internship. This is because many of my colleagues were on annual leave during my internship. Also, many clients were on holiday during my internship.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I saw the amount of responsibility given to me increase as the internship progressed. By the end of the internship, I was

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • EY has developed my ability to work professionally in a busy office. I know that these are clichés, but the internship did enhance my communication, self-awareness and time management. I now feel comfortable to be able to work in any professional firm.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is generally very relaxed. Colleagues would normally arrive at 8am and leave by 6pm. Business is done in a very amicable way and everyone is in general very friendly.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised very well, considering the amount of interns. Induction to the firm was very well planned. However, there is not much organisation once you start working within your teams. Thus, you will have to seek out opportunities of work by yourself.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a great deal of time in me, through counselling sessions and various social events at the start of the internship. The firm were also keen for me to meet new graduates so that they can share their experience.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • The employment prospects at EY is very appealing as they are a fast growing firm, especially in the next 5 years.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Other interns are very sociable. During our internships, we would have weekly drinks after work, in order to catch-up.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in London is higher than the regional offices. Socialising costs are therefore a bit higher too. I would have to buy lunch every day, and this cost up to £5/day.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is great, though I did not have time to explore it often.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • EY are very keen for their interns and graduates to get involved in as many activities outside of work as possible. EY offers sports clubs and employee networks, along with opportunities in Corporate Social Responsibility.
