The Role
Working at Toyota I had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and received real responsibility from day one. Although there were times when I had a lot on I always looked forward to going to work and making my mark in the Department and Company.
Extremely valued. I worked with a great team who listened to my opinions and where appropriate took them on board to assist with projects or issues.
Toyota GB thoroughly support you with training at the beginning and throughout your Placement, when you require it. For example I attended a 'presentation skills' training day as I felt it would help improve sessions I was running for Staff. Also I met weekly with my Manager and had plenty of other colleagues on hand should I have required help.
There was always something to do. I had a large project to Project Manage in my role and therefore times did get busier but nothing unmanageable.
You wouldn't have known I was a placement student. What I mean by this is that although they take into consideration that you are new and young I was still solely responsible for projects and was responsible for ensuring I got my work done, there was no one standing over my shoulder telling me what to do.
I study Geography and although the placement was not specific to the skills (GIS) that is a prime element of my Degree I feel I have developed many other skills such as my project management, communication and presentation skills that will help me with my degree. Ultimately I have developed skills for the future and an understanding of where I want my career to head.
The Company
Friendly, motivational, helpful. All round a great place to work.
Very well organised from start to finish with training to teach you about the Company, which includes introduction to Directors and Departments, as well as where the company originated from. You also have the chance to visit the factory in Derby. You will also follow the same review system as normal employees therefore you can track your progress.
Lots of investment. I had one to one meetings weekly with my Manager and if I required training I could ask for this and if appropriate and available it was granted. You are treated like a full time long term employee, at the end of the day you may go and work there in the future, possibly on the Graduate scheme, and they want you to do as well as you can. My Manager said to me in one of our first meetings that the Placement was as much about fulfilling a role for them as developing skills for my future.

I would most definitely like to go back and work for Toyota. I have applied to the Graduate scheme but if I don't get in through that I will try again in the future.
The Culture
Great social scene with Placement Students. Always someone to meet at lunch or for a coffee break. As everyone is new to the area and in the same position we met up regularly after work and at the weekends. Great opportunities to socialise with colleagues as well during team building days and the sports and social club.
Expensive. Not masses to do in Epsom but Guildford and London are close.
Nightlife...Epsom doesn't really have any, except bars, but Kingston or London are possibilities. The racecourse is also close and we generally made our own nightlife.
Many opportunities through sports and social and other channels. Annual 3 day bike ride from Burgh Heath to Brussels. There were also opportunities to go to sponsored events.
