The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Thales. I got to work on a really interesting project and there was always something for me to do.
I always felt valued by my colleagues and they were grateful for the assistance I provided.
My supervisors were always up for answering my questions and assisting me with my work. I had an informal meeting after the first month where I was able to discuss my progress and request any additional help/support.
There was always work for me to do, however it was quite repetitive.
I was given a lot of responsibility and was trusted to work on detailed parts of the project.
I learnt a lot about the management of large engineering projects which will help in my future career. However on a technical level I didn't learn very much.
The Company
My team were very friendly and welcoming, and as the team was quite small, the office was a great working environment.
The organisation for my security clearance was all sorted before I arrived and my desk was already set up when I got there. However I did have to enquire about the arrangements for my first day as I hadn't been informed.
There was very little personal development as I was only there for 3 months.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
The Graduate scheme at Thales seems like a good way to start off my engineering career - there are lots of opportunities to develop and obtain new skills.
The Culture
The Grads regularly organised nights out in Brighton and other social activities, however I lived too far away for this to be feasible.
Rent is expensive as we are close to Gatwick and London. Socialising is cheap as there is nowhere to go!
What nightlife? If you wanted to go out you would have to travel to London or Brighton (minimum 45 mins journey)
Not that I have come across.
