About You
I enjoyed the experience greatly. The work environment was lovely and I learnt much from this experience, gaining more knowledge and skills.
We were given a lot of responsibility from the start. In my first week I was given a project which was to be used for a future business bid which definitely made my work feel valuable.
The guidance given was extremely helpful. Every intern was given a buddy for the three weeks, someone who had joined the company the previous year. My buddy was extremely helpful, giving me advice on any issues I had and setting up meetings so I could meet senior members. It was a very useful point of contact, and I felt comfortable asking him about anything I needed.
We were given many opportunities to develop soft skills, specifically presentation skills and researching skills. For audit, we were taught how to use the EMS software and had many opportunities to use it. This gave me a much better insight into auditing and is something that will help me later in my career.
The Company
It was well structured at the start, with an induction during the first two days consisting of talks and presentations by senior members. However, once we were in our specific departments there was much less of a structure and I was given any work the team needed done. While at times I had little to do, I enjoyed being an integral part of the team and doing the same sort of work as other members.
It was a very open environment however a little quiet, though this was most likely because all the graduates were on study leave so there were not many people on our floor.
The company invested a lot in us all, giving us two days of training which went over key skills and specify audit training. We were also given continual feedback which was very helpful.
We were treated the same as other employees so it gave a good insight into what working with the company would be like. It seems like a company with a good working environment as well as a good social scene and I believe it would be a great place to work.
I was able to get a good understanding of the company culture and I enjoyed the work culture in the office and the work ethic the employees had.
I was given a lot of audit related work, however I was also given the opportunity to experience other parts of Deloitte. It definitely helped me decide if this is something I'd like to do in the future.
Everything Else
We were paid a good salary for the three weeks.
There were numerous networking opportunities during the three weeks. The company organized many events with the other interns and invited senior members along so we could talk to them in an informal environment. The senior members of my department were also happy to talk to us, and we even had the opportunity to talk to partners in the firm.
As stated above, we were given numerous networking opportunities. We had networking drinks the first week and a dinner the second week, as well as leaving drinks on the last day. There were leo many events organized by the interns.
Talking to other employees, I found out much about other activities employees could be involved in. There was a gym in one of the buildings, as well as opportunities to learn a language of an instrument during lunch breaks.
I would definitely recommend this insight. We were given a significant amount of work that was very valuable in helping me understand more about the role, as well as a good social and work environment and a good opportunity to gain contacts.
