About You
The SVS scheme was very well organised and everyone at the office was very supportive making it a really enjoyable insight into the profession.
The other SVS student and I were placed at a large client site for the majority of our placement. As a result there were tasks available suited to our experience level. I therefore felt part of the engagement team and was conducting meaningful work to help complete the audit. Throughout the placement I was also given increasing responsibility.
At the start of the placement an assistant manager ran a workshop on the first afternoon giving me an induction to the audit service line (as far as I could tell the same one the graduates get). This provided a good base knowledge and a foundation to build on throughout the placement rather than just being thrown in at the deep end. The engagement managers and the current graduates were very supportive and understood that I wouldn't already know everything. Everyone I worked with was more than happy to clarify or explain tasks further when needed and provided feedback afterwards.
My degree isn't directly related to the profession however, the three weeks did develop my soft skills which I'm sure will come in handy!
The Company
The induction event and the first day were well structured. The rest of the SVS was less so as it was dependant on what work people needed help with.
The atmosphere was really good. Both within the group of us on the SVS and others attitude towards us as relatively inexperienced employees.
