The Role
I really enjoyed the opportunity of coming to London and interning for a great organisation like CRUK. The atmosphere was very friendly and it felt as though everyone truly enjoyed what they were doing. CRUK is a great place to intern if you want to feel motivated and excited.
My colleagues treated me like equals and made sure to always made sure not to overburden me with tasks, My manager was always concerned about how I felt with the tasks given and encouraged me to express my opinions about anything that didn't feel right.
I had plenty of 1:1 meetings with my manager where we could go over what needed to be completed etc. There were times were my team was extremely busy and so I had to get on with the work with minimal supervision. However, I see this as a bonus as it certainly made me comfortable with the idea of working independently.
There was always something to work on. The start of the internship was less busy but that meant I had more time having meetings with other members of teams in my department and understanding the way CRUK works.
I had my own project to work on that lasted the entire internship but I was always available to assist my colleagues with their work, if needs be.
I feel more confident and I believe that this internship really added value to my CV. I really enjoyed the CV and interview workshop and it was great to be able to go through your CV with someone from the HR team. Their comments were valuable.
The Company
The open plan office really helps in terms of creating a comfortable and friendly environment. Everyone is usually busy with their individual work but that didn't mean people weren't able to freely chat with one another. It was also always someone's birthday so I witnessed one too many celebrations.
Very organised. The induction days were really useful and we had different people coming in to speak to us a but more about what they do at CRUK. These induction days are also a good way to get to know your fellow interns and make connections, I had frequent meetings with my manager and our volunteer manager also made sure she checked in with us. Overall, the structure was excellent.
Yes!
There are vacancies up but at this moment in time I am not looking to make the big move to London. Maybe in the future!
The Culture
Yes, everyone was friendly.
Travel and lunch expenses are paid but it can get expensive if you don't maintain a strict budget.
