The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and learnt a considerable amount, gaining an insight into how my team work and how they interact with each other. The only thing I would say is on various occasions I was left alone in my team when they went to meetings and events I feel I would have learnt a lot from if I shadowed the team within them.
I did feel as if I contributed most of the time, however because my team was quite small and relatively busy with many of them being away whilst I was there, I only was in regular contact with one team member.
As I am doing a module at university which is a self development report, I asked many questions and got in contact with various people within the firm, as well as those within my team, and they were happy to help and taught me a lot.
Relatively busy, however due to the time of year and size of the team, there were days where I would do more of my own research as I the team did not have time to find me something to do.
I helped out with many tasks which were vital to the operation of the team and department as a whole, so I would say I was given a relatively good amount of responsibility, as I was not given too much. However as I have had experience in the area in which I was placed before, it would have been nice for that to have been recognised and to have been entrusted with more complex tasks.
I learned a lot about myself as well as developing existing skills and learning new ones, this will help me considerably with my degree as a whole module I am taking makes me think about the skills I have learnt and reflect upon my placement, so my time at Deloitte has allowed me to do this, and I have recognised what skills I need to develop in order to be successful in the future.
The Company
It was relatively quiet in my office as a team had moved, and many people were away, so it was hard to get to know the team as a whole.
This was the first year that DRE have taken on students for a summer internship, however it was relatively well organised. I would say that the induction that we had was quite irrelevant to the part of the company we were working in and what we learnt we did not need to know. I also think that because of the time of year that the placements take place that rotations should be implemented to gain a better insight of how DRE works as a whole.
I was there for a relatively short period of time, however I took the e learning modules necessary, some of which I did not see why they were relevant, so maybe that should have been explained better. The IT learning session was helpful.
Subsidised Canteen
You are fast tracked to a partner interview unlike most placements, which is good as you skip a considerably amount of steps and also save time in applications.
The Culture
Because there were only 6 of us in Real Estate, we did not have any organised events between us, but we did meet a couple of times. We also met the rest of the interns in other areas of the company which was nice and went out for a meal organised by Deloitte.
I commuted from home which was expensive however cheaper than renting in London.
-
I wasn't told about anything whilst I was there, however there was drinks and a meal to attend with the other interns.
