The Role
Cummins provided a highly enjoyable placement year, which was beneficial in many ways. I thoroughly enjoyed my job in the Test Cells and would recommend this company to students looking for placements. It has been a challenging yet productive experience - it will be hard to leave!
My colleagues were extremely supportive. I was made to feel at home and any questions or concerns I had were answered and dealt with swiftly. Relationships between colleagues were built on respect, communication and a real desire to help each other.
I was very privileged to have been given a fantastic manager - he really set the bar. I was always able to go to him for advice. He was committed to his job and really helped me grow and become a better engineer. I cannot thank him enough for his help and support.
I always had plenty to do. It was a struggle to balance the work commitments with the student commitments but this was part of the learning curve,
I was given a high degree of responsibility which I thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed me to really expand my knowledge and develop the skills I had gained. Having said that, my supervisor and other colleagues were always available to help/advise if I got stuck.
As part of the Development Program put in place by Cummins for its students, I have been trained in various aspects of professional life (e.g. Time Management, Presentation Skills etc) These are skills which will be invaluable in my future career.
The Company
The office had a relaxed atmosphere - everyone got along with each other and it was a fun environment to work in. I was lucky to work with this particular team as rotating shifts meant I met a wide variety of people.
The placement was organised very well.
I was able to receive free counselling and coaching sessions for my low confidence. This was organised by my manager as he saw it was an area I needed help in. I would never have got this opportunity elsewhere so I am very grateful for it.

I would love to be able to return here! Cummins offers great opportunities to gain experience in different parts of the company. I have really enjoyed my time here and would really like to return if jobs are available.
