The Role
I very much enjoyed my year in the Nicoventures R&D team, part of the BAT Group.
My colleagues ensured that I felt valued during my time in the company, providing me with interesting tasks and providing positive feedback where necessary.
The management team within my department provided sufficient support when necessary, whilst also providing me with sufficient opportunities to problem solve and lead projects myself.
I felt rather busy throughout my placement, especially considering I worked both in Southampton and London, which required some early starts for the commute!
As well as the technical work I was expected to lead throughout my year in BAT GR&D I was also given commercial responsibilities, providing me with important business skills for the future.
The organisational and teamwork skills I have gained throughout the year will allow me to work more efficiently in my last year of university. I also feel I have gained excellent experience of a full time working environment, which will allow me to adapt quickly to any new job opportunities in my future career.
The Company
Great Atmosphere.
Very well coordinated placement - credit to Tobi Oke and Carl Jacobs who provided the students with plenty of extra curriculum activities to keep us entertained and progress out communication and presentation skills throughout the year.
Plenty of time t undertake discussions with my team in order to progress my skill set.

The Culture
Great social scene - many of he placement students house shared, making it a very sociable year!
Southampton is very reasonable in term of rent and general cost of living.
Not amazing, but Southampton city centre is good!
Yes, there was an active social society within the company offering discounted tickets to the theatre and cricket etc. throughout the year.
