About You
I really enjoyed this work experience as it gave me the opportunity to meet lots of new people and gain a valuable insight into law in the workplace, contrasting with previous work experiences. There was a range of tasks to complete and I was kept busy with interesting and challenging work, while the lawyers were very approachable and friendly.
As a sixth form student I felt very privileged to be part of the team for a week and everyone treated me with kindness and respect. Everyone helped me when I had questions and I felt well looked after and valued.
The buddy and mentoring system worked really well and there was always someone I could turn to for help. Everything was explained to me and there was a team of people who I could go. My buddy was fantastic and was a real role model to me during the time.
I developed skills such as analysis, summarising, negotiating, research etc. They have prepared me well for entrance interviews to universities and I use these skills daily, for example in writing my personal statement and at law lectures.
The Company
This insight was very well organised and the time table was very thorough, realistic and gave us plenty of opportunities. The people in charge of the work experience students were very friendly and supportive and constantly checked to see how we were getting on. I was able to help with a range of tasks and with people in different departments which offered me a wider perspective on the firm
The place was full of purpose and activity, and everyone was friendly and supportive. It was a very professional and productive atmosphere, I felt inspired by the work ethic of the firm and it helped me to make the most out of my week.
They gave me important skills that will be invaluable to me, and they let me get involved with as many things as possible, which benefitted everyone.
Seeing those on training placements gave me an idea of what it would be like to be in a similar position to them and helped me to envisage where I would like to be at that stage of my training,
By the end of the week I felt that I understood the ethic of the company and their values and aims were presented clearly to me.
It was so important as I was in the process of deciding whether or not to follow a path in law and now I have discovered that I would indeed like to do that.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for expenses such as travel and food.
There were many opportunities for working with different departments and colleagues and I really benefited from this.
It was really useful to meet as many people as possible and get advice on my career path and decisions to make. I was introduced to a variety of people.
As this was not really part of my work experience I was not so aware of this however I know that there are some such activities.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend, it was very informative, fun, and very worthwhile.
