The Role
I really enjoyed my placement, the work was interesting and challenging and the people were lovely.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They made me feel very welcome and I very quickly became a fundamental part of the team, quickly becoming skilled in a specialist piece of software which very few of the team could use well.
Both the line managers and project managers offered me support and guidance. If I had a question about something it would always be answered and if I ever had an issue then it would always be dealt with professionally.
How busy I was depended on how much work the company had. Some periods were quieter but I was able to use these times to catch up with reports for university. Other periods were so busy that the time flew past.
To start with all of my work was checked. As time progressed I was given more and more responsibility to the point that by the time my placement came to an end I was able to complete all the necessary tasks in the project from start to finish independently.
My comprehension, communication and personal skills have developed over the year. My technical skills have seen the largest improvement, and I now have the ability to apply what I have learnt in my Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics modules to practical applications.
The Company
Professional yet social. Everybody was friendly and welcoming but understood when to work and when to have fun.
Very well organised, everything ran smoothly and even extending the placement was easy.
I attended regular CPD seminars where guest speakers discussed new technological advances.

Working from home
Although I have a job offer, I am considering all my options.
The Culture
The social scene was good throughout the company, with regular breakfast meetings and after work events.
The cost of living and thus the cost of socialising were reasonably high due to the nearness of London, especially on a placement student's wage.
Reasonable. There were a few bars and nice restaurants and sometimes we ventured further afield.
I played football socially and completed the six peak challenge with my company. There were many other activities, some of which were subsidised by the company.
