The Role
Loved it! Was not actually so much of what I initially expected but in some ways some of the activities exceeded my expectations. Was different to the usual style working placements as the project also incorporated language and cultural classes.
i was pretty lucky as I was placed in the most excellent of teams but this I suppose is down to luck. I was in a fairly big team with most other team members around my age with similar type experiences although most of us had studied or were studying a varied number of subjects. The team were supportive and how can I say.....very lively indeed!
This in most cases was great. We got a lot of support from the first week and it was very well organised. The first week though from my view was that we got more than enough supervision. Personally for me it was a little too much but then on the other hand other members of the group wanted this. I was a littke more independent. From week 2 there was a lot less. Actually less than I expected but who is complaining. From the 3 rd week it all started to balance itself out.
Mornings was the time for language classes then we had a break for lunch and then aftrnoons were either workshops or project activites or group meetings. Was Mon-Fri and evenings and weekends were free. We also made some extra free time when we changed own personal group meeting times or when we ran thru things quicky.
Quite a bit. Our job was to create an online E-book. It was a team effort though. Some members for example the ones repsonsible for layout had othe tasks to do. I am not familiar with indesign so was not part of this. This was a bit of a shame as there was no chance to learn this. It was simply those that knew it could work on the layout team. I really would have wanted to learn this skill. This was only real downside.
lots lots and, did i say lots. Mainly on team working, time-management. Language skills, listening skills and real work experience. Unfortunately I did not get the technocal skills on indesign but I did see how a layout team works and get the grips of the basics at least in theory.
The Company
yes fun never stopped. All people were a little wacky but all were those that wnted t enjoy themselves bit of course wanted to get something productive for the whole experience. Was not your typical Generation Y. All were supportive and working all took the work seriously. Those with better language skills helped me a lot with home work and I have picked up the most amazing contacts which I hope I will carry on to the future!
It was well organised as the projects have been running a while. As teh projects have those coming for 1 month, 2 months and 3 months sometimes this got confusing who was in my group as for some things we are mixed together like project activities. This was hard to get to grips with at the beginning working out who is myteam and who is writing which trave guide. This I think is something that could be improved on. At some manic times it was hard to work out which members of staff were in charge of what. But overall I would say the staff were laid back, qualified and really willing to help those that wanted to be pushed. They were enthusiastic at all times which must be hard as it is a long project for them and have to go over the same details about 100 times.
greatly. Like I said they were willing to support those that showed initiative and were really involved. Not so with those that were not motivated. But these were only on off days when our team was either tired, hungover from the night before or it was just too plain hot.

well I'm not 100% sure on all results. . Some of the group members have got more from it and I have heard a few positive stories. There is the chance to get references from the project and it definitely looks positive on any CV. The chance to improve skills and write this on your CV and have ctr vouch for you is prety high but providing you work well in the team. Something that they stressed at the beginning and towards the end of the placement. Some have gone on to work in things like journalism, travel writing, media etc....and some stay on for other internships or even a temporary job or.....can I say it full time paid permanent job. Which I do have now and di d have help from a certain project co-ordinator!
The Culture
ANSWER: YES! If you are not a social person this might be an issue especially in our team as we were together a lot. But within the team some broke off into smaller groups and the less social more in pairs. There were some more individuals that were more private but in our team this was respected. It was not forced to always hit the town in teh evenings and we often had to calm down as getting up in the morning became a little harder each day. There was a University style feeling but at the end of the day it was also a placement. Falling behind in language classes is not the best plan especially if some speed ahead of you = catch up time
fairly cheap! Food. Living was sorted by the company prior to arrival.
In our actual area next to the apartments there was not much going on. Which in a way was nice. But via a bus, or tram within 10-15 mins nightlife was awesome!
yes and no. The project takes up all your time but we got to do a ton of project activities like walking tours, visiting museums , walking around and we saw many a bar and cafe. Most of us when not on the project were just involved in free-time. Some travelled during the weekends.
