The Role
Found it quite a steep learning curve at first but I think that was to be expected. once the concepts and lingo became more clear I really began to come into my element and enjoy myself.
I felt that people were appreciative of what I was doing particularly as they would return to ask me to carry out more tasks. Initially however as I had little feed back I did have niggling thoughts that my added value was not vastly significant but this dissipitated as the internship went on.
Support was there to be had. However it did take me a while to gain the confidence to approach these extremely busy individuals with their own deliverable tasks to attend to.
Some days I felt that I had an awful lot to manage and could be overwhelming at times. Other days I was between tasks and finding things to do could be difficult. Overall however i think I was exposed to a decent balance and probably given quite a representative view of what it is like to work in a bank.
As the internship went on I became more aware of the responsibility I had as some of my work was to be utilized for outside reporting. I feel overall though that I could have handled more responsibility.
Whilst I feel that I already had quite a lot of the skills before, there is no doubt that I was able to develop these further and also how to conduct myself in a corporate environment.
The Company
Quite quiet and slightly intimidating at first but as I got to know people better I understood why it was that way and that it was fine to approach people and discuss work.
Quite well organized from a work perspective. Felt HR were not too well placed to answer important questions though.
A lot of investment, anyone you approached always had time to grab a coffee or sit in a break out area and chat. Ensured I had access to all information including sensitive and confidential for me to completely understand.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Great. Wonderful opportunities to progress, study for qualifications and get exposed to real financial situations. I will be taking the job offer!
The Culture
Good social between fellow interns. however as the majority of full time workers would be working to different deadlines there was limited social activity more widely.
Really quite expensive down in London, especially due to long working hours I had to ensure I lived quite close to Canary Wharf therefore living quite centrally meant it was expensive. that said the salary was very generous and more than compensated.
Good for after work drinks, but not really a place you would have a full night out.
Yes. On the intranet there is loads of information about all sorts of activities you can get involved in.
