The Role
I really enjoyed my internship and felt it was a really worthwhile way to spend my summer.
Everyone made a huge effort to make me feel welcomed to the department and was really nice. I felt like part of the team straight away and was never made to feel that I was just an intern who didn't know anything. We all went out for drinks on my last night which was really nice. The people I worked with was one of the things I enjoyed most about my internship.
I didn't have that much contact with management, unless they came to a client to review our work, which was about 3 or 4 times during my internship. I went to a meeting with a director and senior manager and the client which was really interesting.
There was always plenty work to be done and most of the time I was really busy. Sometimes I would have to wait a while until someone had something ready that I could do, particularly towards the end of the audit where all the difficult things were left. But whenever I wasn't busy I used the time to work on my presentation for my interview so it was still productive.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility which I was surprised about. I had thought that as an intern I would be doing alot of coffee-making and photocopying but I was heavily involved in the audit. At one point I was given a section to complete all by myself which was a huge responsbility.
The tasks I carried out linked straight into what I'd learnt at university so this was really useful and it was good to see things being put into practice. The whole experience, including the recruitment process really set me up for future.
The Company
It was mainly really fun and we would chat as we done our work. Some days when it was close to a director visit everyone would be a bit more stressed and it would be quieter but the atmosphere was still fine.
The internship was set up really well, with a 2 day induction at a hotel before we started. This allowed us to get all the information we needed for starting at the office.
The company were really focussed on giving me the best experience they possibly could. I was given the opportunity to do a presentation and interview with a partner at the end of my internship, to try and secure a graduate job with the company. This went really well and I now have a position at the company for 2011 :-)
Really good! I now have a graduate position with the company
The Culture
Yes, although I didn't meet up with other department interns during the placement. we got to know each other during the 2 day induction. Everyone was really friendly and I still speak to some of them today. From speaking to graduates who worked there it seemed the soial scene was really good.
I worked in the same area I go to university so costs were not much different from my usual costs.
