The Role
The internship was very enjoyable providing a mix of general internship learning, and then role specific work.
The team I worked with were incredibly welcoming, and throughout the company literally every colleague I spoke to provided valuable insight and was willing to make some time to explain concepts.
The management supported our involvement with general internship role, involvement in the stream specific role involved more guidance from my supervisors, however much of this was subjective and available upon request; i.e. advice with regards to decision making.
This varied, at the beginning a large amount of my time was spent learning which meant weekly/daily work was more spread out. As responsibilities grew and developed the rate at which work was done condensed meaning for the later portion of the internship there was more emphasis on prioritising use of time.
This developed, from at first, general learning to core team processes on a daily basis within a few weeks.
Although my degree is technically unrelated, developing an approach to task based work and enhancing my work ethic was a very useful part of the internship.
The Company
A positive and friendly atmosphere. Hard working, but not stressful.
The core parts of the internship were seamlessly organised. For specific roles there was a greater degree of freedom to individually take certain paths in terms of internship wide goals.
Providing introductory training courses at the beginning, then multiple optional courses and further online courses throughout the full internship via Learning At Barclays.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing, a great place to work.
The Culture
This was generally very good between internship arranged events and events organised by the interns themselves.
Canary Wharf and London were comparatively expensive with regards to the rest of the UK. However company events and facilities subsides this!
London has an excellent nightlife for almost any taste.
Numerous societies and activities were on offer throughout.
