About You
I really enjoyed my insight. It gave me an unprecedented insight into the day to day life of a leading woman in the business and what my career could be shaped into becoming in future years. It also altered my ideas of what my career could be like becoming an accountant, than when I first began studying Accounting at University.
I felt extremely valued for what level I am at in my studies, and felt that my opinion and work I completed during my week would be important even after I had went back to my studies
I received fantastic guidance from both my director I was shadowing, to the people I worked with and it really made me feel as if I was part of the family at PwC and they really wanted me to feel valued as a prospective student looking to join their company.
I think it is essential that every student gains some kind of experience working in the environment that they will be looking to work in when they graduate in order to understand what behaviour and expectations are expected of them when they proceed into the working environment. I am really grateful for the experience I gained working at PwC as it helped me understand and plot our where I wanted to go as part of my career and what kind of skills I need to develop in order to get there.
The Company
The only disappointment I felt with my work experience was the lack of structure it seemed to have, as it felt as though my director was always struggling to find me something to do and I didn't want to feel like I was a burden.
The atmosphere was excellent in both the offices that I worked in during my weeks experience, bringing a really positive and forward looking vibe from the work place and the future prospects of the firm.
There was no specific training during the week as Accounting requires you to sit professional examinations after you graduate so they invest in you as a graduate position, however the development was second to none as it made me understand my goals and aspirations when it came to discovering what was needed to reach the top in the firm and the stages to get there.
It helped me understand a lot more about what it would be to be part of the firm and how to progress throughout the stages of the company and get further qualified etc.
It was fascinating seeing the atmosphere in both the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices and how they were so similar despite being in two separate cities reflecting the company culture of forward thinking through innovation.
The content of the week was invaluable in both helping me decide what kind of accounting auditing I would prefer to do when I graduate from university, and progress into a graduate position and whether I wanted to work in a big firm or indeed aim to work with PwC himself.
Everything Else
I was paid generously for my work during the week.
There were many opportunities throughout the week to meet employees of the firm and ask them about their experiences working for the firm.
They were interesting, but also relaxed which made it a lot less intimidating and relaxed to ask questions.
I found out about all sorts of opportunities the employees of the company may be able to undertake outside the work place in order to help with the greater good in their local communities from helping with business advice to planting trees. It involved lots of different skills.
I would encourage this experience to any student in their second year of study at university which I intend to do with as part of the committee of my university department.
