The Role
Friendly Colleagues, Engaging Work, Plenty of Interns, Free Lunch. Overall it was a very enjoyable internship.
I felt like a member of the team as well as a valued Shell employee.
I was given a very good level of support. I had weekly meetings with my supervisor and fortnightly meetings with my mentor. I was also assigned a work "buddy", who was extremely helpful when I wasn't sure on some of the technical parts of the project.
I was assigned one project for the internship. This project, along with various presentations and reports, kept me busy throughout the internship.
I was given full responsibility for my project - which was of actual value to both the team and Shell. This was one of the most enjoyable parts of the internship.
The skills I have gain through this internship have been invaluable. Due to my academic background, the first week was spent getting me up to speed with the relevant reservoir engineering concepts. The internship hasn't really assisted me in my degree studies, however it has been a real "eye opener" into the Oil & Gas Industry as well as Shell.
The Company
Very good atmosphere. The people are friendly and always happy to help.
The internship was extremely well organised. I had mid and final internship reviews with my supervisor and mentor as well as a final internship presentation. I received the project description a few months before I started.
My team invested a lot of time and energy into my development. This was particularly evident at the start of the internship. I also visited St Fergus Gas Terminal and Peterhead Power Station, even though these facilities are not directly relevant to my project.

Working from home
Very appealing. I received a graduate job offer on my final day.
The Culture
Yes. There were plenty of interns and most of us all stayed in university accommodation together. There is a graduate network at Shell which organizes lots of events such as networking events, lunch and learns, ceilidh and cinema trips.
Relatively expensive, but still comparable to university living cost. In any case, the pay was more than enough to cover the costs.
Good Nightlife. There are lots of clubs, bars and pubs within walking distance of the accommodation.
There is always something to do. I enjoyed playing badminton with some of the Shell employees and getting involved in activities with other interns (such as a hike up Lochnagar and Bowling).
