The Role
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. The work I was given actually contributed to the work my team was doing and I feel my experiences will assist me in my final year at university as well as my future career.
My colleagues at Red Gate immediately made every effort to make me feel welcome and gave me consistent feedback on the work I was producing. There was always someone around to ask if I had a question and they were always happy to go out of their way to assist me.
My manager was very conscious of managing me in a way that I meant I could work at my full potential. We had many formal catch-ups as well as speaking to each other every day, the level of support was fantastic.
My workload was particularly well handled by my team at Red Gate. I was given various tasks with different time frames for completing them, meaning I always had something to do. I was moved teams nearer the end of my internship meaning there were a few moments where my workload was running low, but after expressing this to my manager she immediately found me more tasks - which also meant I was able to work with many different people from around the company!
I was given a fair amount of responsibility in that I was allowed to work at my own pace and plan how I was going to get the work done myself. Although I feel if I had a different personality and needed more help, it would have been happily given. I also organised many meetings over the course of my internship and also chaired some myself. It was a great balance.
I was able to put into practice some of the skillsI have learnt during my degree as well as having learnt so much more about how marketing works in an actual business. No doubt this experience will help me during my final year at university as well as in the future when I enter the workplace.
The Company
There was a friendly, relaxed atmosphere although everyone is working extremely hard. There's a great balance of work hard/play hard. Everyone is always happy to help and even just to say hello in the hallway. It's an extremely welcoming, comfortable atmosphere.
It was organised really well. I was in contact with Red Gate over email from the moment I applied and once I arrived my manager had organised a weekly plan for the duration of the internship so I knew what to expect. Although another great thing about the internship was that the plan was not set in stone, we were able to discuss the plan for each week and change it based on what I was enjoying, what I had left to do or what was going on in the team that week. The only issue would have been the unexpected change of teams nearer the end of the internship, this left me with a day or two where I had less work than usual, but this was immediately put right as soon as it could have been.
A key thing my manager expressed to me was that it was important that I got as much out of the internship as Red Gate did. In the first week, my manager and I set some personal goals for myself and proceeded to have one to one meetings every couple of weeks look at how I was doing in reaching those goals and where I was falling short, how my manager could help me.

Company Parties/Events
At the end of my internship it was expressed that if there were to be any positions that would be relevant to me following graduation, they would contact me to see if I would like to apply.
The Culture
Absolutely. We all met at various welcome meetings and were also treated to an Intern night out by the company. There were also opportunities to work together at certain points during the internship. The only thing I would say could be improved would be if they could create more opportunities for non-tech interns to work with the tech interns!
I was living outside of the city with friends so this isn't applicable.
N/A
Yes, there were plenty of activities (sports etc) going on during lunch and after work which other colleagues had organised.
