The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship within Barclays. I was overwhelmed at the opportunities I was given in terms of responsibility and meeting other staff across the business. I was given responsibility from day 1 with my own projects but was always given support where necessary. Senior Directors/MD's and staff from all areas were willing to meet with me and share their experiences which was extremely helpful. I felt very valued by my team and the way I was treated was outstanding in an inclusive environment.
My colleagues respected my insights despite the fact I had a lot less experience than them and they always tried to give me as many opportunities as possible to help me develop; whether it was working with other business areas or helping them on their projects. I felt very valued and this leads to mutual respect- I valued all of their insights and couldn't thank them enough for how much I have developed.
I really liked the management style in my team: my manager trusted me to deliver and let me work to my own schedule. However, both my manager and others in my team were always willing to help in any way as well as those around me. I felt at ease knowing others could step in if necessary and did so willingly allowing me to continuously develop.
I tended to always be busy, I was never at a loss for things to do and I was really grateful for this as it meant I actually worked in a real Business Partner role. Although I was busy, my manager frequently checked that I was comfortable with my workload and was there if I had any queries.
I was trusted to meet with senior bankers and other staff members which was excellent for my development. I was also given my own projects and the chance to be innovative and design my projects to what I thought was best for the organisation. I was treated as a fully integrated member of the team.
The skills I have learned will help me but at university and in my career. I am now a lot more confident in my communication; problem solving and team working skills. The internship also allowed me to build my academic knowledge significantly as well as softer skills from professional skills workshops and learning from my team. Excel training was also very helpful- this is a skill increasingly desired by employers.
The Company
Excellent! The atmosphere was fun and friendly with a lot of staff engagement. We were able to do this and still get on with work/meet deadlines.
Very organised with clear dates and events known from the beginning. The induction week was very useful to let interns know what was expected of them.
I felt as an intern a significant investment was made in me which I really appreciated and made me feel proud to be working in Barclays: from the training week, to mid-internship and end-internship events it was clear all interns were valued.

Very appealing- excellent culture, great place for a graduate to begin their career.
The Culture
There was plenty of opportunities to meet other interns and make friends. I really valued being a part of my team and the fact I was able to socialise with them as well.
Average
Some intern events and volunteering- it was also good to meet back with the intern group at these times.
