The Role
Extremely enjoyed it. My team actively gave me work that I would find interesting and that I could learn from but what also added value, this made my time there very exciting.
The work I was doing was benefiting them and they always showed gratitude for that. As well as taking time out to teach me about their roles and help me with my work they connected with me on a more informal and friendly basis.
I was set clear objectives from the start but completing them was mainly left down to me. Managers are often very busy so it was important to take a proactive approach to tackling problems that arise on your own.
The objectives I was set were challenging to complete in the time frame as I had to learn VBA and SQL as I went along. Although I believe this was a good thing as it motivated me to learn faster and work harder meaning I could gain more from the internship.
The objectives I was working involved creating tools that were going to be used once I left. Therefore there was a lot of responsibility to not make mistakes. I was also mainly left to complete these objectives without guidance but the help was there if I asked for it.
The most valuable skills I learned were technical skills such as Excel, VBA and SQL. These skills are very transferable and I am sure I will be using them extensively within any role I end up in in the future.
The Company
The trading floor was hectic and exciting. My area, off the trading floor was more relaxed with people having more informal chats.
It was very structured with set objectives ready before you started.
Online pre-learning before we started to get everyone up to speed. We then had three days of training including Financial Concepts, Excel and Professional Skills. The training available continued throughout the internship with online leaning modules available. There were also events such as the Graduate to Director panel session, although I believe there should have been more of these.

Received a job offer.
The Culture
All the interns got along really well although I thought there would be more social events. Generally everyone was working very hard so didn't have time for socializing after work.
London is very expensive but the internship pays accordingly.
You are spoilt for choice in London.
There are sports clubs and societies to join. There was also an intern sports day!
