The Role
Relevant work which was applicable to my degree course
Everyone was very friendly and offered help when ever I needed it, I got the impression the work I was doing was valued.
Anyone was happy to help. I even managed to get some guidance off people very high up in the company. Was given a lot of individual coaching my my line manager.
Was generally busy day to day. Some days I was busier than others and this was mainly down to having to wait to talk to people and book out there time.
I was given a lot of responsibility and my 2 projects were my own to run. I was even able to use some of the major project budget to pay for contractors to do required work.
I think I developed a number of skills in the project management side of things as well as a better ability to deal with other professionals. I also picked up some new skills on the reliability and maintenance aspects of engineering.
The Company
Good atmosphere in the bp office and everyone talked to each other and got on possibly due to team building events organised my the management. Some of the week I was in a contracts office and it was a very different atmosphere there not as enjoyable.
The internship was very well organised from day 0 I was inducted seamlessly to the building like any other would be employee and all my IT needs were taken care of on the first day. Another bonus was that all the interns were able to contact each other before hand and organise accommodation which was also great.
I was given alot of personal coaching by my line manager and was also put on a course to learn to give better presentation.

Found then very appealing, applied for a job and have been given a place on the grad scheme to start once I have finished uni in 2011.
The Culture
All the interns were living in the same area and rooming with each other in flats. This provided a very good social side and we were regularly socialising together and organised a few parties.
Dont have a lot to compare to but Aberdeen is more expensive than Glasgow to live and work in.
Lots of pub and clubs maybe not the greatest variety but plenty of places to go. Nights out I find are all about the company and the people I lived and worked with were great.
Plenty to be found. Myself and a flat mate joined a local rugby team and took part in preseason and the first few in season games. Others joined an orienteering club and we organised a few games of football and fives as well. There were also a lot of good gyms in the area.
