About You
The insight was thoroughly enjoyable. The staff from all levels (recent graduates to senior members of staff) were very friendly and approachable.
I did feel valued by the firm as even senior members of staff would take their time out to explain or introduce themselves to me. The work from meeting involved building rapport with clients which involves a high degree of trust.
If at any point I needed help my buddy would be there to answer any questions. It was stressed that joining as interns we were not expected to know but rather to learn, and asking questions is the best way to develop your understanding.
During the time of my internship I developed important skills such as building rapport with clients, senior members of staff. The most important skill I believe I gained was the social interaction aspect of the corporate world which I had not experienced prior to this
The Company
The structure was generally well structured, the work which needed completing was well thought out in advanced. However the short nature of the placement (3 weeks) meant it was hard to work on more complex projects
Some of the work which had to be completed was not the most exciting however the work was still very important and I recognized that even at a more senior level these tasks will still need to be completed. I feel it was important for me to get more mundane tasks to learn all aspects of the job
Due to the short nature of the placement training and development was limited however there were well structured inductions regarding interview advice and also many compliance inductions which were completed throughout the internship
I am extremely pleased to have had a placement within the firm, as I believe the only way to give me a feel for what it would be like within the firm is to experience first hand and given real responsibilities and a wide variety of tasks; which I was given.
The placement was extremely helpful in allowing me to understand how important the people that work for Deloitte are to them as an identity - all members of staff were friendly and extremely helpful at all times.
The experience was extremely beneficial as it confirmed to me as a person I am more suited to a more stable office environment such as tax rather than continuous travelling in audit.
Everything Else
I was paid and reimbursed expenses for any travel for induction and on-site client meetings
Everyday there were opportunities for me to speak to any members of staff from senior members of management to graduates, especially given the open office environment especially the "break-out" area
The icebreaker events were helpful and allowed easier integration of the other interns given no one knew each other. The members of staff giving presentations also stayed for coffee afterwards and provided opportunities for students to network with them
There were always opportunities for drinks after work later on in the week however many social events were department based.
The internship was absolutely the best way in finding out whether a career in a Big Four firm in tax was right for me. Getting experience is the best way in terms of suitability, not only for the firm but for you as well and having experienced the vacation scheme would highly recommend it to anyone. I have began to recommend friends to the graduate scheme.
