The Role
I found my internship at TMVS enjoyable and challenging. I was assigned a fantastic and innovative project, and worked with a great supervisor who guided me through the entire process. I learned so much in the space of three months and thoroughly enjoyed my time. TMVS also organised social events which were fantastic and great fun in the city of Edinburgh during the festival.
All of the colleagues in my department were extremely friendly and helpful. They were all very approachable and we collaborated on any issues that arose during my internship. Regular meetings meant I knew what everyone in my department was working on, and everyone pitched in to help/advise on all the projects. Regular social events were also organised to get to know people in other departments. Interestingly, there were a lot of collaborations between departments which created fresh ideas and opportunities to improve applications. Overall, the TMVS team is organised very well and I made some great friends during my internship.
I had regular meetings and catch-ups with my supervisor which was very useful for the short space of time I was at TMVS. It meant we could manage time and prioritise specific tasks accordingly. When my supervisor was unable to come into work, he also got in touch by email every day just to make sure that I was getting on well with my project. Brilliant supervision!
I was very busy throughout my internship. Particularly the last week where lots of things had to be completed and presentations had to be organised. But I think it was good to be constantly focussed on a task which kept me motivated throughout the summer.
was assigned a project when I arrived at TMVS but the project assignment was pretty vague and I could have gone in several directions. Throughout the intern it became clear what my objectives were and I collaborated with my supervisor to make sure that (a) I understood the project (b) the tasks were achievable in the timeframe and (c) we were on the same page. In most part I was able to go off and try out new methods which were appropriate for the assigned project.
The skills that I achieved have been very useful during my studies, and I got some great ideas whilst at TMVS which I intend to implement. My communication, time management and general programming skills have improved considered and will be extremely helpful for my career. TMVS is great to have on my CV and will be very useful for future employability.
The Company
Everyone in my department were very welcoming when I arrived and helped me get settled in very quickly. During coffee breaks I had interesting conversations with my colleagues and I enjoyed the chatter around the office. By the end of the intern, I felt like part of the team.
The internship was organised very well. On the first day, all the do's and dont's were outlined alongwith materials for out-of-hours access, wifi etc. We were given a tour of the building and TMVS has a great system in place for finding employees and details about ongoing projects. HR took care of any financial issues and were a great help throughout the intern. In addition, regular monthly meeting were organised for health/safety and general catch-ups.
Although official training wasn't organised (apart from healthy and safety), opportunities were provided to take part in some training opportunities for all employees. TMVS ensured that internal recruitment opportunities were made known to interns and EngD opportunities were also available for undergraduate interns.

I would definitely consider TMVS when job-hunting in the future. TMVS has a great working atmosphere and collaborate on a international level, which is a great career prospect. If I was being picky, I would like the opportunity to move between departments if I was working with TMVS.
The Culture
TMVS has a social committee who take care of organisation of events in the company. We had a great social event towards the end of the summer with a great dinner and scottish dancing. We also got together with other departments during lunches, celebrations, ice cream, friday pub night and loads more.
In general it was quite difficult to find a place to stay in Edinburgh during the festival as prices increased and accommodations were taken quickly. I was very luck and was able to find a place on Gumtree. I had a great flatmate and paid a reasonable price for accommodation. Going out in Edinburgh gets costly towards the city centre, but was reasonable at the Shore where we socialised most of the time.
During the festival, nightlife at Edinburgh never stops with loads of music, theatre and pubs. It does get noisy at times but generally a nice atmosphere.
There were loads of opportunities to visit the festival, commonwealth games, and even tech-events in the city. Loads of tourist locations as well which I visited a lot over the weekends.
