The Role
I really liked the atmosphere in the office, the way things worked, how they've enabled me to do my job.
I felt really valued by both the managers as well as by the other inters.
While there was a lot of support from my manager, the job required to firstly try and solve the problems myself, and then seek for guidance.
Hard to tell. Very busy during the projects, but less busy in the time between projects,.
I wasn't given too much responsibility, only what the role required. But I had loads of responsibility by volunteering to get involved in other projects as well.
Soft skills were definitely one of the best I've developed at GSK, but technical as well, as I've gained loads of skills which weren't taught at university
The Company
Very pleasant. People were friendly, ready to help or point you in the right direction.
Good organised.
I've been sent to seminars, talks very useful for my technical role. I've been given material and resources to gain the specific technical skills I was required to use
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Speaking from an IT perspective, prospects are there if you wish to pursue a business oriented career, not an IT one.
The Culture
Definitely. Big number of students, had a leading group for organising social events.
As I've worked in Stevenage, the prices to living and socialising were good, being so close to London there prices weren't very low, but still, compared with the expenses of the interns living in London, was a lot cheaper.
There is only one club, and the rest only pubs, restaurants or coffeshops. Very small town, very few opportunities for nightlife. Being close to London, 20 min by train, most inters travelled there.
There were volunteering opportunities.
