The Role
I really enjoyed getting experience of working in Audit. I went into this a complete novice to the world of audit but the staff were all incredibly accommodating and understanding. By the end of the internship, I was being given jobs requiring greater understanding and responsibility which was great as I felt that I'd progressed.
There was always work for me to do and any work I did was always gratefully received by my colleagues. At no point would I say that I felt like the "odd one out". On my first day in the office I went out for lunch with pretty much everyone and I was introduced. This helped integrate me into the company. All my colleagues were incredibly understanding of my lack of knowledge too and helped me whenever I had an issue.
My people manager was always at the end of a phone. I unfortunately went into this job having sustained a broken collarbone just 2 weeks before. Everyone was incredibly understanding and I received more than adequate support to enable me to work comfortably and safely. There was a clear structure to the internship which was set out from day one during the induction.
I would say 95% of the time, I had work to be getting on with. However, there was the odd occasion when I'd be going around the office seeing if anyone had anything for me to work on. On the rare occasion no one did, I had a presentation to work on as part of the overall assessment of the internship. However once this was completed in my final week, I found that I had rare occasions when I had nothing to do.
In my second week, I was sent out to clients which was a great responsibility as I was representing the company. I spent a lot of time one to one with clients going through financial documents and other sensitive documents. I felt the level of responsibility increased throughout the internship but at a rate I was comfortable with.
I received training over a 2 day workshop at the company's residential training base in Bradenham. The workshop was exceptional. I would almost say it was life changing. It's completely changed the way I approach presentations and will undoubtedly benefit me both in my final year at university and throughout my career
The Company
The atmosphere was professional and very friendly. This was my first experience of working in an open office space like this so its difficult to compare it. I think I expected there to be more conversing but people seemed to be very busy and focussed. All the staff were absolutely brilliant and very supportive.
It was completely seamless. Be it the induction in London, the training residential in Bradenham or my work out with clients, it was all organised and went without a hitch.
As mentioned earlier, I had some exceptional training on my presentation skills. Throughout the internship, a lot of people spent a lot of time helping/teaching/supporting me.
I've accepted a job offer from them.
The Culture
There were only 2 of us in the Southampton Office and we tended to be out on jobs so we rarely saw each other. We went to the pub several times and I feel it was down to my distance from the office that stopped me getting more involved with the social scene.
I lived a long way from the area in which I worked so feel this question isn't really applicable.

There were opportunities such as 6 a side football teams and various meals and pub outings. I lived a long way from the area in which I worked so couldn't really get that involved.
