    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given lots of varied work to do, it was very enjoyable

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It was regularly commented on how useful it was to have me there, I was doing real work from day one .

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was completely new to the type of work so had to ask lots of questions so that I knew what I was doing, and everyone was very helpful and willing to answer them. The first piece of advice I was given was to ask lots of questions and be a sponge and absorb all the knowledge. I also met with my line manager 3 times during the internship to check how things were going.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite busy when I was out of the office, working slightly longer hours than I was meant to, although I think this reflects the reality of the job. When I was in the office in the final week there wasn't really that much work for me to do so it became a bit tedious. I had to prepare a presentation to deliver in my final week and didn't have time to do this while I was at work so had to do this mostly in my own time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • By the end I was given responsibility for a few whole sections of an audit, which was then checked off by a more senior member of staff. I was also able to work directly with the clients, asking relevant questions.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt more about time management and keeping on top of jobs, which will be useful for my final year at uni. We took part in a 2 day course on giving presentations, and then presented to a range of members of staff which was a brilliant experience. I have a much better understanding of what an audit entails, and what a career in audit might involve. I was also given the opportunity to learn a bit about what some of the other service lines within the company do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I only spent one out of the six weeks in the office, I spent the rest of the time out at clients offices. It was quite quiet when I was in the office as not that many people are in the office at once. We ran a baking competition and cake sale which was really good to get to know some more people within the office. Everyone who is in the office on a Friday goes out for lunch together.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The induction was good and we were kept well informed about what we would be doing. There was always useful work for us to be doing, as well as creating a presentation to give at the end of the internship, and organising a fundraising event, It was easy to get in contact with people if you had any questions.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We got to take part in a 2 day course on giving presentations at the companies training centre which is a large country home. We also had the opportunity to meet with more senior members of staff to set clear goals which would help us get the most out of the internship.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It seemed like a good place to work, the people were friendly and there was a wide range of interesting work to do.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were only 2 interns and we were always working on separate jobs so didn't see much of each other. My colleagues were all very friendly although most people have quite a long commute to the office so the wasn't that much of a social scene after work. There is a curry club after work once a month.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Southampton has a lot of students, and I was living in my uni house so it was quite cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for! There are plenty of places to eat or go out which are not too expensive, although you can spend more money and go somewhere fancy if you like.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is a good range of places to go out for drinks or clubbing

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was quite busy for the whole time I was working so didn't really look in to this.
