The Role
I found this internship incredibly enlightening and a very helpful introduction to the corporate world. It was a very well thought out internship and has a number of support systems -buddy, mentor and line manager to help you along the way.
I had a great team who really helped me get the most out of my time there- they gave me real work to do and gave me great feedback the whole way through so that I could improve and take on more challenging tasks.
I had weekly catch-ups with my line manager where we examined where I wanted to explore further and where I felt I was having trouble. It also gave me the opportunity to feel more comfortable with my line manager and my team in general.
As I gained trust within the team, I was rarely without work to do; work that was often challenging and useful to the team. I barely noticed the hours passing during the day and the internship flew by.
I was given various projects which were my sole responsibility to run with. They often gave me exposure to those higher up in the business and helped me build my network as well as improve my skills.
I feel that this internship has really given me a headstart in the corporate world. It really boosted my confidence and helped me decide where I wanted to concentrate. It also gave me great insight into finance and banking which will help me in my final year at university.
The Company
My team were really nice and always approachable.
It was a very well thought out internship with training, support systems and various events which helped us network with higher ups down to fellow interns.
I felt Barclays was really invested in developing my skillset; they were really looking to help me improve and to come back for the graduate programme.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a graduate programme place for when I finish in university which I have accepted.
The Culture
There was always something going on with fellow interns.
It was London after all.
There are a number of bars to hang out after work in Canary Wharf. However they seemed expensive to a student mindset.
There were a number of social events as well as volunteering events that everyone was free to get involved in.
