The Role
Doing a year in industry was the best thing I ever did! Due to the social aspect of the organisation (being built mostly of students), meant there was a young vibe in the office and living together and working together meant we built strong friendship groups and really enjoyed the social aspects of living down south. It also helps with the daunting aspect of moving away on placement!
Everyone at We Brand It is friendly and welcoming, being a small office environment you really feel the benefit of the sociable atmosphere.
You are each paired with a Business Development Manager who works along side you so there is plenty of access to support and guidance from them, especially in the first few months. The management were also always in the office dotted around so it was very easy to ask any questions if you needed any help.
I worked alongside one of the senior account managers and therefore at times could be extremely busy when trying to reach our monthly sales target. Also if a colleague is away on your pod, then it becomes busier in terms of covering their work as well as doing your own.
As a sales coordinator you are solely responsible for managing your teams' orders. Also throughout the year your Business Development Manager gives you more responsibility by giving you your own clients to manage. The responsibility increases if your BDM is away as you handle your team's accounts/sales as well as your orders.
I have developed many valuable skills that will enhance my CV and help me gain a graduate job in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the placement as there is so many students it can really help with settling in. With so many interns it makes the office a more fun and lively environment.
Right from the start you hit the ground running. After two weeks of training you become fully integrated into the We Brand It team, however support from management is always there to give you a helping hand if needed. Also there is usually a cross over period with old interns and new interns, where you can learn from their experiences and they can help and support you with getting to know the systems and procedures to follow.
The industry and job role is very much learn as you go, it can be surprising how much knowledge and experience you gain throughout the year just by doing the job on a daily basis. I have picked up many valuable and transferable skills from the year which has prepared me for the future in other organisations.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
There is a prospect for future employment with We Brand It if you work hard enough, however for me the experience of sales highlighted areas that I don't want to pursue in a future career.
The Culture
There is roughly 15-20 students on placement at We Brand It so there is a great social scene to be part of. Also the houses that the organisation puts you in gives you the opportunity to live with the other students allowing you to keep some of the university style life. The number of students meant we all formed great friendships and we socialised regularly on week nights and weekends.
Down south the prices of socialising is always going to be more expensive, so like at University you do have to budget. However the accommodation, bills and travel is all paid for by We Brand It so you don't have to worry about the cost of living so much.
Maidenhead is a small town so you have to make it what you can. There are numerous bars to go to and a small club called 'Smokey Joes' which you will love to hate! However 20 mins away you have Reading and Windsor for nightlife and if you can afford it London is great to get to on the weekends!
As there was a lot of us, we tended to do our own social activities outside of work such as; shopping, bowling, nights out, get togethers, BBQs etc. Also between some of the lads and work colleagues a 5 a side football league can be organised.
