The Role
I loved the working environment, everyone was very open to making the interns feel welcome and a valued part of the organisations and everyone up to MDs had time for us
My team gave me meaningful work and even let me take charge of certain aspects of projects they had been working on. I felt I really bonded with my team and they often emphasised that the work I did during my internship has been genuinely helpful.
I worked very closely with my manager and team members so felt very well supported by them and we also had regular catchups with our recruiter who was great throughout. As part of their women's network, I was also assigned a mentor who was fantastic and made a lot of time for me, it was god to have someone outside of my team/department to expend my network to other areas of the bank, great initiative.
There was some variation, some days would be packed with meetings and project work, where other days were a little quieter. I think I learned that it is up to your own time management to keep each day's workload balanced. I never felt bored, or overly stressed.
As part of a very small team, I feel that I was genuinely given quite a lot of responsibility for certain projects and from my first week was trusted to make calls and hold meetings by myself. I was surprised at how much responsibility I was actually given and how much faith my team seemed to have in me,
We were given a lot of training and opportunities for networking, great time
The Company
My office was relaxed and everyone got on very well, there was a lot of banter and communication between different teams. It felt easier to fit in once I'd been to a few after-work drinks and gotten to know everyone. It gets a little quiet in August when people go on holiday.
Overall I felt it was very well organised, good training and pre-internship communication and a great end-of-internship social. Would have been good to know a little more about our teams before we arrived, but other than that, all very well organised
They clearly invested a LOT of effort and money in our training and trying to make sure we enjoyed ourselves, we had a lot of opportunities from networking groups to volunteering schemes which helped to develop our professional skills
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
After the internship, many of us were offered a place on the graduate scheme
The Culture
Yes, but it depends on your personal preference, there's no pressure to go out but there were always people keen for an after work drink or night out
Expensive, it's London
Great, it's London
Again, this depends on how much you want to get involved, there are lots of sports and social clubs open to anyone.
