    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really really enjoyed my internship. I worked in HRS tax but within this I worked with various different teams and was given a wide variety of work to complete. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to shadow partners and work in different areas of the company - e.g. corporate tax. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and helpful. It definitely gave me an insight into the sort of work PwC employees do.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt incredibly valued - both in terms of work and socially. I was given responsibility in the projects I undertook, and was given training so that I could improve my skills. From a social aspect, I was constantly included - for example having my own welcome and leaving lunches, and also being included in work socials. All the contact I have had with PwC colleagues, since ending my internship has been fantastic.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone was more than willing to give up their time to help me if I had any difficulties and was more than happy to show me how they performed tasks. I was assigned a 'people manager' and 'buddy' who were to be my first ports of call if I faced any difficulties, but I found everyone I worked with to be able to help. Additionally, PwC gave us some training prior to starting the internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On the average day, I had the perfect amount of work. However, I did have to seek out my own work if I wasn't set enough - but colleagues were more than willing to help me. If I didn't have enough actual work, I was frequently invited to sit in on calls or meetings.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, in terms of a lot of the work I did was sent to clients and I also sent emails to clients. My work was checked by colleagues - but as an intern, this is something I would fully expect to happen in most companies!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Realistically, the skills I learnt won't help me hugely with my degree. However, technical skills and general office skills will help me considerably in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great!! There was a really positive atmosphere and it was clear everyone in the office enjoyed their jobs!! There was great inter-team relationships and everyone I worked with was so friendly!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were specific days organised by PwC - eg. three day residential training at the beginning. I was assigned a 'people manager' and 'buddy' who were to support me with my internship, which they both did very well. I was working in HRS tax but as there are a lot of different areas within this line of service, it really was up to me to decide where I wanted to work and who with. This meant I had to actively seek out work, as opposed to having organised days doing certain things - but this was one of my favourite aspects of my internship!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company gave us training days - both technical and general employability skills. I found these to be of benefit.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would absolutely love to work at PwC again! I enjoyed the work I did, liked the people I worked with and am further aware of what a fantastic firm PwC is.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I socialised both with other interns in the office and PwC employees. There wasn't a huge organised social scene amongst interns, but as we all got on we often spent time together. There were a lot of work socials and lunches with other members of the team, which I enjoyed.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office I worked in was in my hometown, so I would have been living in the area regardless of whether I had the internship. However, comparing it to the town I am at for university, it is more expensive.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife isn't hugely amazing, but there is a variety of bars and clubs.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was included in all social aspects outside of work. Additionally, I helped the newsletter team.
