About You
Completing the Summer Vacation Scheme in the Audit Service line was such a valuable experience for me, not only in order to 'test out' my potential career path, but also to see what work at Deloitte was like. It was an extremely fast few weeks, and I was really impressed by how heavily I was involved in a diverse range of tasks. I am so surprised at how much I enjoyed myself!
A great aspect of the scheme was that even before I started, I was allocated a 'buddy', who I got in touch with via email. She was so helpful, and had been through the same pathway into Deloitte, so knew exactly what I was experiencing! Depending on location/service line, you could be entering a department as the only intern, or alongside others. I was there with another intern, but the team was really effective in having us on separate tasks, visiting separate client sites and really getting involved. I honestly did not come across anyone who was anything less than nice and polite! Due to my heavy involvement in tasks, it meant that I got to interact with many different employees, and perform work to assist them. I always felt really appreciated, and was readily provided with feedback.
A great aspect of Deloitte, is their investment in young people. This means that as an intern, there are many employees who are also quite recent graduates, as well as more senior experienced staff. It was great to talk to other employees who shared their experiences with me as well as their positive reassurance in my progress.
The Summer Vacation Scheme truly cemented my desire to continue in my chosen career path, and I knew that I wanted to do that at Deloitte. I used my experience, and all of the support I received at Deloitte to prepare for my partner interview. I have since secured a place on the graduate scheme with Deloitte, and am entering my final year of uni with a secured next step!
The Company
It was so well organised. We began the internship by firstly going on an induction day over in Birmingham, where all regional summer vacation scheme interns met. We stayed overnight, and it was a really great event networking with everyone! When I first went to my own location, all of the training I had to complete was very clearly scheduled and everything went really smoothly. The actual tasks then were subject to the needs of coworkers, with several client visits secured in advance. I was very happy with the ratio of planned tasks to getting involved in additional tasks when I was free.
It was honestly a lovely place to work, and it was great knowing that I could happily work independently or approach others if I needed it. I highly recommend applying to Deloitte!
I was given invaluable experience, an opportunity for a partner interview, and as a result I will be trained for three years upon graduation. I could not be happier!
Everyone was so forthcoming with their own experiences, and it was really refreshing that I received honesty about the heavy workload entailed, and the commitment to independent study for qualifications. It really helped make me sure that I wanted to continue in this career path, and I felt more aware of what Deloitte expected of me.
I feel that it was clear to see the values Deloitte presented, and the interaction between employees was a great indicator of the company culture.
I believe that everyone should have a 'practise run' of what they think they want to do. For me, I wanted to be thrown in at the deep end, learn all the potential negatives i.e heavy workload etc, and compare it against all of the value the career would present. Deloitte made me sure of what I wanted.
Everything Else
I was paid.
I met employees in my own department, the tax department, and was even brought over to the other Deloitte location in the city to meet the Technology team.
On my first day I was invited to a little work event, and immediately met the head of my department. It was great.
Yes, there were various sporting activities some of the employees were involved in.
Definitely!
