The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as it allowed me to explore my strengths and work on my weaknesses while finding out where my interests lie.
My team was extremely supportive and patient throughout the entire internship. All the relationships were based on mutual respect.
My managers became my mentors and while guiding me through some instances, they also allowed me to use my own judgement on some others which led to tremendous personal growth and boosted my confidence.
The work load was generally balanced, however there were the odd occasions where I was not particular busy which allowed me to dedicate some time to personal development via the various on-line courses offered on the intranet.
I was given the chance to lead the intern team on several occasions while also initiating and leading other projects of my own.
I gained many transferable skills as well as developing the existing ones even further such as communication, leadership and team work.
The Company
Very pleasant, family-like atmosphere.
There was initial lack of information and slight confusion from the respective recruitment officer who was not very prompt in responding to emails or assisting my queries.
The training week and the additional networking and workshop events show the serious investment of Barclays in its interns.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Fortunately I received an offer for the 2015 Graduate Programme.
The Culture
While the existing networking opportunities were good, they were limited for interns like myself who were based regionally.
My office was based in Basingstoke which was fairly affordable.
Being a small town, night life in Basingstoke was limited.
Community work with the team.
