The Role
I highly enjoyed my time spent at Barclays. The culture is very British and less intense than other banks. They are also very sociable and organize sports tournaments and socials outside of work.
I felt very valued by colleagues. Everyone took the time to get to know me personally and professionally and put a lot of effort into making my experience a valuable one.
The support from the leadership team and my supervisors was amazing. Although I was part of a big team (+40 people) I had regular meetings with someone from the leadership team as well as a buddy in the team who provided regular feedback and support. Based on my objectives for the internship they helped customize my experience and were always asking if there's something in particular I want to find out more about.
In the beginning not busy at all but after requesting to get involved in more day-to-day work I became very busy. Towards the end, before the deadline of my final presentation, I was very busy as well. But very manageable and no one expects you to stay past 7pm.
I got involved with client work and was thereby given a decent amount of responsibility,
Excel will always be useful and I learnt a lot of excel. Also, presentation skills from internal presentations. The first hand experiences from speaking to clients, making pitch books etc will also help me in terms of professional skills development.
The Company
Fun and quite chill. There's a lot of chatting between people and someone is always celebrating their birthday and bringing cake.
The HR team does not seem organised at all and were not very involved in the success of my internship, However, the few events they put on were good.
A lot of personal training and my team greatly contributed to my development. I was also given a mentor (senior employee) and a buddy (someone on the gradprogramme) and they provided immense support throughout the internship and after.

Got offered a job and I am confident that I would be happy working there. However, a lot of changes and restructuring so the future seems a bit unstable.
The Culture
It was ok but not as good as I had expected. We went out for drinks after work quite a lot but not a lot of clubbing and activities on the weekends.
As expected quite high but with the banking pay it's affordable.
Canary wharf is great for afterwork drinks with packed bars and happy hour drinks. For nightlife we mainly went to shoreditch, which is 15 min away and a lot cheaper, or to mayfair.
There was a volleyball tournament during the 9 weeks I was there, which was great fun. It seems like Barclays does have a lot of internal opportunities to get involved with a lot of different clubs and events within Barclays.
