The Role
Having completed three placements with different parts of the business this was the placement with the best work. After the first few weeks of settling in I was working on projects ranging from London Underground to Power Stations.
The office I was in had a small office feel within a big company. The staff all knew each other and took the time to socialise and were very approachable.
I had my line manager and placement co-ordinator both of whom were on hand to offer support and guidance when I needed it. There are also various helplines and contacts internally to make use of.
My workload was dependent on what work was on going within the office. For the first few weeks I had enough to keep me occupied along with settling in and eventually the workload picked up and I was busy everyday till the end of placement.
Some of the work I was doing was either sensitive in nature or confidential so there was a lot of responsibility provided. Although most of my work, like graduates, was still subject to supervision and checking.
I was placed on two safety training/induction courses that allowed me unescorted access to engineering sites. I was did online training for particular skill modules that will assist me back at university.
The Company
Overall there was a professional atmosphere with a good sense of humour between the engineers. The summer event was good fun and allowed the engineers from two offices to mingle and get to know each other better.
I think that my arrival into the team could have been handled better but cause I was familiar with the company it didn't take me long to adjust.
Based on previous experience that was reinforced during this placement, the company puts a lot of value on training and development. They let you manage your own development online and support you towards chartership status.

Since the company is intending to take 350 graduates in the UK alone this year the prospects are good. That and the last three placements should provide me with a good background as I've technically undergone a 6 month interview with the company.
The Culture
Myself and the other interns would socialise once a week and go out for lunch. There was also office sporting events and social events to get involved in.
Glasgow is one of the cheapest cities in the UK to live in and I found that was true with the exception of the commonwealth games when it got a bit more expensive. Food, transport and accommodation are all really cheap depending on where you go.
Glasgow has a great night life and yearly festivals that usually fall within placement time. Certainly enough to keep you occupied!
If you wanted to get involved with organising social events, sporting competitions or trips outside of work there was plenty of opportunities.
