The Role
It was a great place to work in. Highly recommend others to spend summer with that company.
I was valued not as an intern but as any other developer in the team. Your ideas will actually be implemented in the final product, if these are of course the good ones.
My line manager did a good job to ensure that I get most of the internship. We had biweekly 1-to-1 meetings where you get feedback from others that help you to know what you need to improve or what you are doing well already.
Sometimes you are working whole day long, sometimes there is not much to do and you pick tasks from the backlog (things that are not crucial, but would be nice to be done).
The amount of responsibility you get depends on you. If you feel confident enough to do the hard bit - you are free to do so. Even if you fail, no one is going to laugh at you or blame you. But in general, all the code/work you do is valuable to the product, so you are always responsible to the same degree as others.
I became more organised - this is quite useful. Technical skills, such as writing high quality code that is easy to extend, easy to understand - crucial for developers. I got a picture of what I want to learn, what I want to do next.
The Company
Very friendly. And fun. There were random nerf gun firing. You can go to play table tennis or foosball whenever you want. If you have question - go and ask the person you think has an answer, everyone is ready to help.
We had lots of introductory meetings in the first 2 weeks. Then you are just the same employee as others, you work, you go the company days out.
They give you opportunity to largely improve your skills.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
In the end of the internship they give you an offer if you were good. You will feel if they would give an offer as you go through your internship. It's not hard at all =)
The Culture
There are social and sport clubs. I went to football and frisbee clubs.
