The Role
I enjoyed every minute of my internship and have made friends there which I still keep in contact with today.
Because of Barclay's values, recognition is focused on heavily. So there is a strong sense of encouragement and appreciation within the company. This came across during my internship in our various projects and day by day activities.
Because I was new to Barclay's everyone is more than happy to help at all levels. Especially when given particularly difficult tasks
There is always something to be done so it helps to build the team morale when you can support them
On most of my work I was given a task to do and someone who would act as an advisor, apart from that I had free-reign over what I was doing
I developed a stronger sense of my personal brand and awareness of my strengths and where I need to further develop. Much of the pre learning I came across during university since I do economics but they specialized certain areas which will be helpful in my third year
The Company
There was always a positive and friendly atmosphere across the entire office which helped making contacts in the bank much easier
There was a clear structure that we had but enough space to allow for individual variation
Barclay's were very keen to support all of us through a variety of initiatives and projects that utilized many resources of Barclays. So there it was clear that barclays were willing to invest heavily in us
I have been accepted onto the graduate scheme which I am very excited and I cannot wait to return
The Culture
The interns all had a graduate buddy who would act as their mentors. Consequently we were all very well mixed as graduates and interns both in and out of work. For colleagues Fridays after work and lunches were always busy with something social to do which really helped integrate us into the team
I commuted from Coventry to Birmingham so getting a train was fairly cheap as a return
There were many pubs and bars around the bank that were always busy after work especially on fridays
There were many various opportunities that were both sociable and work related such as being ambassadors for Barclays in schools
