The Role
Doing my internship with Barclays turned out to be a great experience. Besides developing my technical knowledge, I believe that I also developed my personal skills which will help me throughout my career.
Being an intern, the team made it quite easy for me to integrate. The people in the team were always approachable and helpful. The dynamics between interns were also fantastic. We helped each other during the internship and many organised events together. I had 'Meet an MD/Director' initiative. I was surprised to see how easy it was to approach and meet such senior people within the firm.
I was provided with support and guidance throughout my whole internship. I had weekly meetings with my manager where he would constantly tell me if I am on the right track. All the people in my team were quite senior but they were still very much approachable and helpful. I was also a member of the Embrace network and was assigned a mentor and a buddy.
The internship was perfectly balanced. I was given enough time to first understand about how the department work. Deadlines for submitting reports and presentations were very much reasonable.
At Barclays, I was happy to be given such an important responsibility. I was always being taught to do my role the best way possible. This is because all the work that I will submit at the end will still be used in the future.
I believe that I have greatly improved on my communication and networking skills during my intership. I now feel more confident talking to people and value the importance of networking events. The task I was given during my internship allowed me to also develop my analytical skills and deal with large volumes of data.
The Company
There was a good team spirit and I was felt supported. I easily integrated the team and knew who to contact in case I had any problems.
All arrangements were made prior to the internship. We had our computers and account set up already. There were multiple events throughout the internship organised by HR. I found those to be very good as I got the chance to meet new people.
Barclays provided Excel online training, financial concepts training and Excel training. Coming from an engineering background, I found the financial concepts training very helpful as I got the opportunity to learn something new.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I will be joining Barclays after I graduate as I believe it is an ideal place to start my career.
The Culture
There was good dynamic between fellow interns. They were very friendly and helpful.
Based in London, nightlife was great. There are lots of great restaurants and pubs around the workplace.
I had a gym membership and I also got to do some volunteering while working for Barclays
