About You
I found my vacation scheme to be an invaluable insight into what it would be like to actually work at Taylor Wessing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there; everyone was extremely friendly, from trainees to the people who work in Cloud 9. The work was stimulating and enjoyable, and the socials were a great way to get to know the other people on the scheme and the trainees in a less formal office environment.
I felt extremely valued during my vacation scheme, particularly during the busier moments where associates and trainees genuinely relied upon your research or the letters you had written to a client. This was extremely beneficial to me as a vacation student, as not only did I learn new skills with regard to communicating with the Client, but some of my work was actually utilised and sent to the Client.
At no point did I feel isolated or unsure of where to go. The guidance and support I received during my vacation scheme was forthcoming, and we were fully made to feel part of the Taylor Wessing team. Members of graduate recruitment were also very helpful in terms of guidance as to how to apply for a Training Contract.
As Taylor Wessing was my first vacation scheme, I think the skills I developed will be instrumental both in my degree studies, and during my Training Contract. It was an invaluable insight into what life at a City Firm will actually be like, and allowed me to take a realistic stance when making decisions regarding where I should apply for Training Contracts. Furthermore, I am looking forward to seeing the friends that I made on my vacation scheme again in the future in London.
The Company
The Taylor Wessing vacation scheme was extremely well structured, with every day beginning with a detailed talk about the different departments in the firm. The socials were well spaced out throughout the two weeks, and at no point did I feel at a loose end or bored.
The general atmosphere during my vacation scheme was great. This was down to the trainees who made us feel welcome and at home, and the other students who were on the scheme. Luckily, we all got on extremely well, and I think that made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.
It was clear Taylor Wessing was looking at us from the point of view of investing in both our, and the firm's futures. On a more one to one basis, the associates and partners that I sat with over the two weeks were extremely keen to impart their viewpoints and tips for the future, which will be skills that I hope will help me throughout my life.
The vacation scheme was absolutely invaluable in helping me to understand what it would be like to work full time at Taylor Wessing. The two weeks allowed us to experience life as a trainee in a City law firm, and I am so glad I got to experience it, as it allowed my decision to apply for a Training Contract to be made much more easily.
Taylor Wessing's open, welcoming and non-hierarchical culture was clear to me, even in the two weeks I spent there. The vacation scheme allowed me to experience this fully, as had I not got a place on the vacation scheme, I would not have been able to observe for myself what a genuinely friendly firm it is.
The content of my vacation scheme was invaluable in helping me to decide on my future career path as it allowed me to experience what life in a City law firm is really like.
Everything Else
The pay at Taylor Wessing was slightly less than what I received at other vacation schemes, and was not really enough to cover accommodation expenses in London, as well as paying for food and other living costs.
There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm including welcome drinks and a lunch with the Partners.
The social events were really good fun. We went bowling and to the Comedy Club. As someone who is not from London, these events proved to be the best opportunities to see more of the London social scene, as well as getting to know the other vacation scheme students outside of the office.
The best opportunity that I got to get involved with outside of work, was when I accompanied the trainees to the Blackfriars pro bono clinic, and got to sit in with Clients and listen to their problems. This was an amazing opportunity, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I would definitely recommend the Taylor Wessing Vacation Scheme to a friend. I had a really good time, and it allowed me to experience not only life in London, but also life in a City firm, and it was absolutely instrumental in my decision to take my career forward and apply for a vacation scheme.
