About You
Thoroughly enjoyed my time with the firm. I made so many new friends and got to interact with a wife variety of employees.
I felt very valued at the firm. Despite the teams being busy, they always found time to show me how my work fit into the project and how much help I was. This was especially the case during my second seat in Competition.
Loads of help! Supervisors sat in the room with you, and if you had simpler questions, there was always your trainee buddy to ask. I found it useful to interact with all the trainees in the team for work and socialising.
Given a scheme of just two weeks, it is difficult to develop too many skills to take back to uni. What I can say is the amount of networking really put me out of my comfort zone.I learnt how to network and build relationships more effectively.
The Company
Very well structured. I was never bored or sat at my desk for too long. We had talks from all the practice areas to give us a better understanding of the firm - something other vac schemes do not include.
The atmosphere was very positive. The other vac schemers were such a lovely bunch. The lawyers themselves seemed to be very active and busy, which was good to see.
Quite a bit. A word of advice would be to make your interests known from the very beginning. I had an interest in financial regulation however I could not be placed in that seat. Instead, grad rec ensured I attended team meetings and helped in any work that overlapped with my seat in corporate or competition.
We were encouraged to leave the office at 5.30pm, so I do not think that was a good insight into the life of a city lawyer!!
I really got to grips with the friendliness of the firm. I saw it -from random smiles in the corridor to trainees helping me with tasks for partners. We also had a number of talks to understand the firm's strategic focus.
Very helpful. I really liked the tasks I was given, and I also got to do the more admin, tedious duties as well. Getting to see the pros and cons really helped in making an informed decision.
Everything Else
I was paid very reasonably for London rates
Everyday was an opportunity to meet people in the firm. I even got to meet the managing partner from Rio who was visiting!
We had two social over the two weeks. A great way to bond with the new friends I made!
We had a good idea of the pubs the trainees frequent. We were invited to join them on their night out!
Definitely. This is a lovely firm with a very structured scheme which aims to bring the best out of you. If you do not like the firm, the experience itself is worth it.
