The Role
The internship was an enjoyable experience: everyone was very friendly, approachable and welcoming.
Although, as an Intern, the work I completed was generally fairly straightforward tasks, I appreciated the fact that I was always thanked for the work I completed.
I was assigned a 'buddy', whom gave me help and support. However, I felt that I could approach people for help, regardless of their level, i.e. senior associates and managers.
I often struggled to obtain work to do; however, this did get better as the internship progressed. Actively seeking work out myself as opposed to waiting to be approached with work definitely helped with this.
Work is generally delegated down, so generally there isn't that much responsibility given to interns. Everything done is checked multiple times by those more senior.
I think having experience working in a professional office environment is definitely helpful when applying for graduate jobs.
The Company
Everyone was friendly, and there was a fair bit of banter. The team I worked in was also fairly small, so it was easy to get to know everyone.
It was fairly well structured- there was a residential at the beginning for 3 days, and 2 days introduction in our regional offices. We also had a development day, which was useful as we given information concerning exit interviews and offers.
During our 3 day residential, we were given quite a lot of information specific to our service line as well as the structure of the organisation as a whole. This was helpful for when the placement in the office started. There was also a Dragon's Den event organised, making it clear much time and thought had been invested into planning the internship.
There seems to be good progression opportunities within the firm. Secondments abroad and into different service lines are both available and encouraged.
The Culture
Since, as Interns, we spent a large amount of time together during the first week, we got to know each other well.
Fairly average
As a big city, there are many clubs and bars in the area.
As interns, we were invited to the socials. Some other interns also played sport after work.
