The Role
The internship was an unparalleled opportunity to work with the top accounting firm in the world. In my opinion it has definitely lived up to its name. The range of experience and exposure that the firm provided was extremely satisfying and a great insight into what working life would be like at PwC.
The people of the firm are what make it such an exhilarating experience. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. They value your work and encourage you further which boosts your self-confidence.
I was assigned a people manager and a buddy throughout the course of the internship who helped me set objectives at the beginning and monitored my progress throughout the programme. They were extremely helpful and approachable. They even took on the initiative to get to know their interns more personally by arranging social events.
Although the work is real and challenging there was always plenty of support available. The work is manageable and not too exhausting.
Despite being new to the firm, I was given responsibility to talk to clients and ask them questions. I was also assigned specific tasks that were to be completed within a certain deadline. This gave me a real sense of responsibility and I felt extremely valued by my team members.
The skills that I have developed at PwC are extremely valuable and will help me to pursue my career in the accountancy profession.
The Company
There was expectations to get the work done but beyond that there was also a very friendly and relaxed ambience.
The internship was organised extremely well. From training to flight bookings right down to free lunch and dinner, everything was taken care of. We all felt very welcomed by everyone at PwC.
There was lots of training and development available. A three-day training session in Birmingham marked the beginning of the internship and then a further development day was organised midway. The internship was finally rounded off with a free trip to London at a 'dragons den' event. There was also continuous development throughout the internship that was managed by people managers and buddies.
National Travel
At the end of the internship, everyone was granted a job offer from the firm.
The Culture
I worked in the Edinburgh city which meant I had to commute a lot everyday which ate into my salary.
Since the internship was only of six weeks there wasn't a lot of opportunity for other activities. However the firm does encourage activities outside of work.
