The Role
I really enjoyed the placement, lots of different activities within my day to day activity. In addition I appreciated getting lots of exposure to higher levels including management and executive directors.
I felt very valued and encouraged to develop and stretch.
I was given regular one to ones with my manager and was encouraged to pursue objectives that stretched me beyond my comfort zone. My manager was very supportive of all my decisions.
It fluctuated. At the beginning of the placement there wasn't much to do but by the end of the placement I was much busier and had a variety of activities on my workstack.
I was given more responsibility as the placement progressed. I was eventually brought in to help with a strategic financial check call which meant that I was contributing to something that was seen by all the Heads of Departments within my wider team.
The main bulk of the training was on the job stakeholder management and the mentoring advice given to me by my team which has proved invaluable with my new role. I was also encouraged to attend several MBTI and stakeholder management courses throughout my placement.
The Company
It was mixed between the beginning and the end. At the beginning I joined the office during a structural reorganisation with many people at risk of losing their jobs. Understandably the atmosphere was less jovial than I was expecting. However, as the year progressed and things settled down it became extremely fun and I thoroughly enjoyed being within the office environment.
I think as it was the first year of running the internship it was a learning experience for both of us. Between them understanding how much work I could take on, and the amount of work that was available to delegate to me. I think that on the whole it was a very well balanced and executed placement.
I was fully supported through all my activity within my placement and my team and manager helped me to successfully apply for the finance graduate scheme. I think it is a testament to the company that I remained with them after the internship.

I'm currently on their finance graduate scheme and loving it.
The Culture
As we were split out across the country the social scene with fellow placement was limited. But with colleagues it involved lunches out and regular get togethers.
Both Surrey and Hampshire have high cost of living, so it was expensive.
With London close by there was tonnes to do.
Loads of sports clubs nearby and plenty of things to get involved with like book clubs or cinema clubs.
